At approximately 4:00pm the Santa Monica Fire Department responded to a reported natural gas leak in the alley behind the 1300 block of Ocean av. The first arriving Engine company reported a ruptured, 4” natural gas line as a result of construction workers performing excavation in the alley behind 1301 Ocean av. An additional Engine, 1 Truck Company, 1 Hazardous Material Response Vehicle, and 1 Battalion Chief arrived on scene and assisted the first arriving Engine with precautionary evacuations and provided for combustible gas monitoring in the alley and inside adjacent structures. The gas company was requested and arrived on scene at approximately 6:30pm and utilized special equipment to shut off the gas. The incident was managed and mitigated under the direction of Battalion Chief Tom Hiller. There were no fire or injuries to citizens or Fire personnel. The incident concluded at approximately 6:45pm |
