Daisy de la Hoya might not hold the key to Bret Michaels’ heart, but that doesn’t mean the two aren’t on speaking terms.
“Me and Bret still talk to each other occasionally,” the “Rock of Love” sexpot said. “In fact, he’s playing here in Denver tonight, so after he plays the show we’re going to hang out. There’s still some stuff we need to clear up.”
Despite not winning season two of VH1’s hit Celebreality series, Daisy couldn’t be happier. Since “Rock of Love 2” debuted, the niece of boxer Oscar de la Hoya has made a name for herself, becoming a celebrity almost overnight. Currently busy promoting her solo EP (which fans can listen to at myspace.com/daisyrocksmusic), the singer/model is readjusting to life in the real world—you know, in between photo shoots and paid appearances.
“It’s been so awesome,” Daisy replied when asked how her life has changed since the show. “I’ve been doing appearances around the country, meeting all my fans…I’ve just gotten a lot of support from everyone. They’re all so interested in me and everything I’m up to outside of ‘Rock of Love.’”
When viewers saw Daisy in April during “Rock of Love 2’s” 90-minute finale, the heartbroken blonde bombshell was a wreck and told America, through her tears, that if she had known how hard being rejected by the Poison frontman was going to be, she wouldn’t have signed on. Now that some time has passed, Daisy admitted that, if she could go back in time, she would do it all over again, as the whole experience changed her life for the better.
“Everyone knows who I am now,” the former bassist for Seraphim Shock said. “And I just feel so privileged to have been on one of the most amazing reality TV shows in history, and so lucky to have gotten the chance to be intimate with one of the greatest rock icons around.”
While everyone may know who Daisy is now, the free-spirited rocker chick (and former Hot Topic employee—don’t you wish you shopped at that mall?) admits the “Rock of Love” editing crew took some liberties with how she and her fellow housemates were portrayed during the show.
“The series didn’t show the true me,” Daisy said. “But when you sign on to a reality show like this, you go in knowing you have no control. The way some things were portrayed were good, some were bad, but from the start they created these characters and they didn’t wane from that [during the season].”
Since the series ended, Daisy said fans have been surprised to find out just how “down to earth” she is off-camera—not to mention how petite she is in real life (“I look a lot taller on TV somehow,” she said with a laugh). And, despite being called one of the ugliest girls “Rock of Love 2” winner Ambre said she’s ever met, Daisy insists that no matter how she came across on the series, she’s really just a “super nice person” in real life.
“I don’t think I’m like this ultra-sexy person,” Daisy said, discussing her castmates’ claims that she paraded her sexuality around on the show to get Bret’s attention. “I’m not into that whole sexpot thing. In fact, I’m actually pretty oblivious to when guys hit on me because I don’t think, ‘Oh, everyone wants me.’ Really, I’m just a big dork. I’m a goofy kid at heart who loves to read, write, kick back and hang out. I’m really into supernatural stuff like UFO conspiracies. I journal a lot, and I love watching the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, The History Channel and Criss Angel’s show (‘Mindfreak’).”
Something else Daisy is into—or should we say, someone else—is Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx.
“I do like Bret; he’s a great guy,” Daisy replied when asked who her true rock star crush is, “but I’ve always had the hots for Nikki Sixx. I just think he fits who I am more. And I’m such a huge fan of Mötley Crüe—I just love them!”
Looks like Bret wasn’t Daisy’s Rock of Love, either. And someone else who Daisy’s left behind is the controversial live-in ex-boyfriend, Charles.
“No, we don’t live together anymore,” Daisy said with a chuckle when asked about her current living situation. “That whole thing put me in such an unfair situation. We had broken up way before the show, but we were traveling and we couldn’t afford to move out…we figured I would go do the show and then we’d figure everything out. But then the issue came up..but I had a life goin’ on before the show, you know? That doesn’t stop because I’m going to go do ‘Rock of Love.’”
While Daisy may always wonder if her ex cost her Bret Michaels’ heart, she has definitely moved on from Poison’s lead singer and is turning her attention to her own music, as well as her modeling and acting careers.
“I’m really into movies,” the former reality star said. “I love horror movies, and I think Quentin Tarantino is just such a brilliant writer/director. I also love Tim Burton and would love to star in a film like John Hughes’ Pretty in Pink.”
For now, though, Daisy’s in discussions to appear in some upcoming music videos and possibly even star on an upcoming episode of “CSI.” As for whether or not she’ll ever let a cameraman follow her around again 24/7, surprisingly, she’s up for that, too. In fact, she’s even willing to turn the tables.
“I love VH1, and I know what [starring in a reality series] is like now,” she concluded. “But I wouldn’t fight or complete for love again. Fighting for love is so much different from fighting for money or just having a camera crew follow you around and record your everyday life. It’s very emotional and just a hard situation to be in. Unless, of course, people were competing for me—that would be awesome.”
Look out New York; VH1’s next Celebreality season could be comin’ up Daisy.
