ESPN Brings Motox Competition to San Diego

Qualcomm Stadium will host ESPN’s inaugural X games Moto X world championships, April 12-13,  attracting such living legends as Travis Pastrana, Ricky Carmichael, Jeremy Sternberg, and  Brian Deegan competing in the two full days of racing, freestyle, best trick, and step up competitions.  The grand finale will be the freestyle final, which will be aired live on ESPN2 on April 13th from 4-5 p. m.

The X Games have a touch for the larger than life, expert in raising the adrenaline level for thousands of fans. The stadium will be decked out in full monster set-ups, complete with the requisite, impossibly angled, steep walls these bikers call ramps.

For those not familiar with the step up competition, the riders basically engage in a high jump competition. The only difference is flying over the bar on a fire breathing dirt bike, as opposed to the foot powered version. This allows the riders to hit dizzying heights and if you’ve never seen it, you need to. Jeremy McGrath won his first ever X Games gold in a step up competition, and he’s going to be facing a lot of familiar faces, like Travis Pastrana, who actually split a freestyle dirt bike video game with him, and Brian Deegan, who looks more like the kind of guy you’ll see in a shady dirt biking DVD, but can actually serve up some extraordinary air. He has been a staple at the X Games and has taken top honors in the best trick category in the past.

For you hardcore race fans, take advantage of a couple of pit passes, and see the racing and freestyle competition up close and personal. The sound of a dozen dirt bikes ripping through a course is more felt than heard, and the death defying acrobatics of the best trick and freestyle competition will have you on the edge of your seat.    T

he stadium will also accommodate fans with field and traditional stadium seating and even a family friendly, “beer free” section for those who want to keep it alcohol free. ESPN HD and ESPN2 will split coverage of most of the events, a full two days of events, with something for everybody. Be sure and check out http://expn.go.com/expn/mxwc/ for further information. With tickets starting at just $10, you can’t miss this event if you’re an X Games fan in Southern California.
