Based in New York City, The Bravery is known for their synthesis of indie rock and electronic sounds. Their first single, "An Honest Mistake", hit the airwaves in 2005, debuting at #7 on the U.K. Singles Chart and reaching #12 on the U.S. Modern Rock Chart. The video, which depicts the band playing amongst an elaborate Rube Goldberg machine, shot mostly in black and white, was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award. Since their debut self-titled album, The Bravery has released The Sun and the Moon, a two-part set consisting of The Sun, which shows the band's acoustic rock side, and The Moon, adhering to the electronic dance sound that embodied their first album. The release debuted at #24 on the U.S. charts. While on tour, The Bravery decided to rework The Moon, recording in hotel rooms, dressing rooms, and on the back of their tour bus. Upon returning to NYC, they finalized the new product and released the updated, two-disc set, entitled The Sun and the Moon Complete, which is scheduled for release on March 18th. The band has also received considerable publicity for their off-stage antics, such as getting kicked out of a VMAs after party when drummer Anthony Burulcich drunkenly jumped on stage and stole the mic, and feuding with Brandon Flowers of The Killers after he attributed The Bravery's success to his own band's jetstream (The Killers are signed to the same Island Records label, and share a similar sound of new wave revival). Of course, it wouldn't be true rock 'n roll without the petty squabbles; it all adds to the allure!
Your Vegas is also a London-based band, and belts out a similar sound, mixing indie rock and pop elements. Harmonies and touches of soft and sweet make their songs catchy and smooth, while maintaining the core of hard rock. Needless to say, all three bands emanated that extra element of rock 'n roll -- the rock band style, image, and aura. In fact, the members of Switches and Your Vegas could easily be swapped without notice to a new and unsuspecting onlooker. Long hair, tight jeans, funky clothes and hats, a Marlboro shirt -- it all adds up to a room full of screaming girls/groupies and the feeling of a true rock concert.
Crash Mansion LA features nightly entertainment with unique themes, such as Mustache Mondays catering to the gay and lesbian sector, and Soled Out Tuesdays to show off the latest in sneaker fashion. The club features a main room and stage (where live guests play), the Crash Lounge, and the Foyer Gallery, where artwork is put on display. Three bars are found on the main floor, as well as one at the upper VIP mezzanine. The venue is the former site of Myrons Ballroom, and complements the original Crash Mansion in New York City. The club attracts premier musical talent every week, including Bone Thugs N Harmony coming this Friday, February 22nd. For more information on upcoming events, see the link below.
