Cinematic Explosions In The Sky

Explosions in the Sky will be lighting up the stage at the Wiltern on March 17th, 2008 and your chance to buy tickets begins at 10am on Saturday, December 15th. Their electrifying live performances are the stuff of legends, so be sure to get your tickets well in advance to avoid missing the opportunity to see one of America’s premier post rock artists.

The Austin, Texas four piece has risen quickly in popularity with their uniquely delicate yet powerful instrumental compositions that balance skillfully between melancholia and elation. While many bands in the Philip Glass/Steven Reich minimalist inspired genre rely on orchestral arrangements involving multiple instruments, Explosions relies exclusively on intricately woven guitar lines, sometimes so much so that they forgo the use of a bass guitar and perform with three guitarists and a drummer.

Their epic, almost cinematic works have caught the attention of many film makers and have earned the band soundtrack appearances in multiple visual media, including the Friday Night Lights film and television show, the HBO documentary series De La Hoya-Mayweather 24/7, and even Cadillac commercials. This cinematic publicity is a testament to the band’s ability to create powerful emotional works, and while many fans may privately gripe about the mainstream exposure, few if any will tell you that this distracts from the overall enjoyment of their beautifully crafted songs.

The historical and classy Wiltern Theater will serve as a fitting venue for what is sure to be a moving live performance. While the supporting acts have not yet been announced, a quality band like Explosions is bound to treat their fans to an evening they will not soon forget. This is an event that should not be missed by musical fans of any genre. But, once again, get your tickets fast before they disappear.
