Corsets, petticoats, Gothic corridors and bruised porcelain skin…not since Marilyn Manson music videos has Victorian morbidity reached out to people’s dark sides. Artist and photographer Chris Anthony, however, has brought refinement through violence back to the gloomy turn-of-the-century theme, along with a little Hollywood glitz. 

Anthony’s latest exhibition, “Victims & Avengers,” opened at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City Jan. 27, with actresses Emily (Fox’s “Bones”) and Zooey Deschanel (“Elf,” the upcoming “Bridge to Terabithia”) hosting the event.

The Deschanel sisters were subjects in many of Anthony’s panoramic Photoshopped photographs, which depicted victims of violence reclaiming their power in their own ways. The photographs were printed on heavy cotton rag, giving them an extra antique feel.

Zooey Deschanel also performed a short set of songs alongside a pianist.

Anthony recently photographed rock band My Chemical Romance for their latest album, "The Black Parade," and his work can also be seen in Sony's Playstation 3 ad campaign.

Portions of the proceeds benefited the Jenesse Center of South Central L.A., a shelter that offers assistance programs for domestic violence victims.

Guests included My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero, “Crash” actress Jennifer Esposito, SNL funny man Chris Kattan, comedian Jamie Kennedy and actor Bradley Cooper.
