Victoria's Secret's crew flew into L.A. on Tuesday and Wednesday morning they were given the key to the city from Johnny Grant, the Honorary Mayor of Hollywood, at the legendary Graumans Chinese Theatre. For the ceremony, the 27 models stood on a small grandstand with Gisele Bundchen, Karolina Kurkova, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Izabel Goulart and Selita Ebanks in front.
Johnny Grant gave a short speech welcoming Victoria's Secret and, in his words, "27 of the most beautiful women in the world" to Hollywood and Los Angeles. Gisele Bundchen accepted the very large key on behalf of Victoria's Secret and the Angels presented Johnny with his own set of Angel Wings. It was very sweet.
A reporter next to me in the press line at Graumans said that the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show coming to L.A. was the most exciting thing to happen here in quite awhile. You would think that a city that hosts the Academy Awards, every other media extravaganza known to modern man and has a corner on most beautiful people per capita would be pretty laid back about a fashion show. Not so. The media and celebrities came out in droves.
While television and film have homogenized their "good looking" criteria down to a minimum few types, Victoria's Secret has broadened its scope. In their search for models that reaches world-wide, they continue to assemble a multi-cultural collage of pretty young women who have the best physique for showing off lingerie. Victoria's Secret definitely knows the US "melting pot" of a market and knows what appeals to American eyes. Connecting beauty, glamour and the diversity of everyday people is a large part of their success.
Socal.com's kid reporter Logan J and I had the chance to interview four of the "Angels", that day at Graumans. Watch the video and see. It's lots of fun and you will discover a different side to being a model. The Super Models are not only beautiful, they are articulate, funny and very, very nice.
