Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Makeup collection was introduced to the public for the first time on Monday, July 31st, in the Victoria's Secret Store at The Grove in L.A. and hit the shelves city-wide in 22 V.S. stores on August 1st. For the next 40-some odd days Very Sexy will be available only in Los Angeles. On September 19th, the makeup line goes national from sea to shining sea but, until then, ladies and, perhaps, a few gentlemen will have to venture to our fair city if they want to buy Very Sexy Makeup. Take that NYC!
Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova, Izabel Goulart and Selita Ebanks were in the spotlight at the launch celebration to demonstrate to the paparazzi and the world how great the new products look on gorgeous faces and to wax poetic about the advantages of using Very Sexy Makeup.
We're not talking about a couple of bottles of goo here; this makeup line is vast, colorful, color-filled and cleverly named to strike any fancy. Makeup history has begun a new chapter.
On this hallmark opening day, from noon until 2, the regular- faced public was invited to have first look and first dibs over the endless array of new beauty items, have a free makeover and the opportunity to get each supermodel's autograph. For the remainder of the day until midnight, shoppers came in great waves and, by closing time, all the Very Sexy Makeup bottles, jars, tubes, bars, etc. were sold out. Indicators say Very Sexy Makeup will be Very Successful.
While customers cleared the shelves in Victoria's Secret at The Grove into the wee hours another celebration took place in the Tropicana Bar at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova, Izabel Goulart and Selita Ebanks continued the launch festivities as the Victoria's Secret supermodel superhostesses to a stellar guest list that included Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson, Jeremy Piven, Peter Saarsgard, Alyssa Milano, Elisha Cuthbert, Sean Avery, Nicky Hilton, Kevin Connolly, Maria Menounos, Clifton Collins, Jr., Elizabeth Banks, Amaury Nolasco, Arielle Kebbel, Shawn Pyfrom, JC Chasez, AJ DiScala, Corri English, Anthony Michael Hall, Nick Verreos, Santino Rice, Robert Best, Ethan Erickson and AJ Buckley. Do these women have stamina or what?
If you are the practical type who isn't much swayed by makeup and supermodels, you might wonder about the importance of a splashy, flashy event that launches a makeup line. Does it really matter when you consider the chaos in the world? Of course not. But doesn't the world’s chaos stem as much from human illusion as buying a certain lipgloss because Heidi Klum or Selita Ebanks uses it? Except, in the case of makeup, the the illusion gives you a fleeting moment where you become beautiful, too. I think it's good to feel nonsensically good now and then. As long as you keep a grip on reality most of the time, everyone, plain or lovely, should have the freedom to enjoy hoopla, free stuff and new beauty products when they come along.
Heidi, Alessandra, Karolina, Izabel and Selita are articulate spokeswomen for Victoria's Secret. They know the world of makeup and have very interesting things to say in the video interviews that Julia Parker hosted for Socal.com.
