Food Section
American Wine and Food Festival 2008 at Universal Backlot
By Bibi Baker and David Wallen

With a plethora of excellent vineyards and renown chefs on board, the festival was a grand bounty of food, music, and great wines.  This year the auto sponsor was Audi and the crowd had fun playing with their amazing new sports cars.  Sneakily parked in alleys between the sets, Audis with their distinctive headlight design poked out their noses accompanied by varrrrmmm  noises.

Over 40 renowned chefs prepared exquisite tastes for the crowd, including, of course, Wolfgang Puck, Nobu Matsushida, Alex Stratta, Sam Choy and a host of others.  Lobster is back in vogue, and what good news that is, as well as pork, which was served crinkled and crispy, inviting a preventive sip of red wine with each treat.

Another perennial favorite, sherry, has popped back into style, with many lovely varieties, and newly arrived are pomegranate spirits and ginger liquors.

The Italian Piazza area was a bit toned down this year, without the hanging cheeses or long European style tables.

This all topped off by seven outrageous dessert stations from Wolfgang Puck to Chocolates a la Carte -- all ambrosial and tempting.  With a lively band at the Perrier Jouet Lounge it was, of course, possible to just dance all those calories right off.

The event brings funds to the Meals on Wheels programs, which have suffered due to the rising cost of gas.
