Vox Femina's "Spirit I Am" Soars
Sergio Martinez, Socal.com Editor

Vox Femina, a choral ensemble composed by lesbian, bisexual & heterosexual women dedicated to the performance of quality choral literature in Los Angeles will be presenting their dramatic new show “Spirit I Am” at the Wilshire United Methodist Church this coming Saturday March 8th, starting at 8pm.

What’s Spirit I am you ask and why should you attend?

Here’s an answer for you directly from their own website:” Spirit I am expresses the vital reality that all human beings are spiritual beings –and that a life fully lived is a life of saying ‘yes, I am’ to the spirit, the joy, the wonder and the challenges of existence.”

As part of Spirit I am’ss spiritual musical experience, Vox Femina will be hosting a portion of the Shower of Stoles, the dramatic exhibition of the collection of liturgical sholes and other sacred items which are meant to  ‘represent the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people of faith. The religious leaders who’ve donated the stoles and the sacred objects have served in 27 denominations and faith traditions from six countries on three continents.

Also during the show, Vox Femina will premiere two new commissions including one by Australian composer Sara Hopkins from whom the group has performed pieces before.

Founded and led by its artistic director, Dr. Iris S. Levine, Vox Femina has become one of the top choral groups in the country and it ‘represents all women - complex, sensual, eternally beautified by the experiences of their souls’

Are all humans spiritual beings like Spirit I am says? One thing is for sure, if one is, we all are…

Don’t miss this chance to see one of LA’s premiere choral groups supporting a great cause for the LGBT community.
