Theatre Music
The Orb Inside A Minimalist Jukebox
Sergio Martinez, Socal.com Editor

If God was planning to start his own Ambient/Trance band, he’d sue for sure Dr. Alex Paterson to obtain the name of his: The Orb.

Thank God though, I’ve been informed through private diplomatic channels that God isn’t planning to infiltrate the Ambient groove business and so The Orb stays just how we like it: the most original music makers of their class in a long time to come.

The master creators behind such cult classics as The Orb’s Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld, U.F.Orb, Orblivion, Orbus Terrarum, Live 93, Okie Dokie It’s the Orb on Kompakt among many others, will be giving a rare performance during an all night concert experience at Walt Disney Concert Hall presented by the LA Philarmonic on March 18th and 19th.

To make the bill even more appealing, local techno-icon John Tejada will also be spinning as part of the all stellar cast dishing it out throughout this six-hour-long-music-video-extravaganza. If you’d been fantasizing about the impossibility of an all out rave in the coolest non/square building we’ve got in town, this is as close as you may get. That’s what I call, Minimalist Wow: The Orb @ Disney’s Concert Hall… yay!

Boom Bip, Dntel, and Dub Lab soundsystems will also be mixing it up as additional staple names fairly familiar to those in the ear plug collecting crowd. Also, be prepared to be mesmerized visually. Video artist Vello Verkhaus will be pumping visual guerrilla your way… oh, nothing man, just plans to heal your retina while your eardrums get blasted out of their boring week-long routine.

Part of the all new Minimalist Jukebox, -a two week music festival presented by the LA Philarmonic and curated by American Composer John Adams,- The Orb will appear at Disney Hall to launch an all night extravaganza meant to soothe your urban anxieties.

Make sure you call and reserve quickly, The Orb isn’t your most often touring band and chances to see them live are rare. Prices for admission are uncommonly inexpensive for being associated with the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

SPECIAL EVENT LAUNCHES “MINIMALIST JUKEBOX” – A TWO-WEEK FESTIVAL PRESENTED BY THE LA PHILHARMONIC

What:           On Saturday, March 18, just before midnight, Walt Disney Concert Hall becomes the setting for a progressive, ambient musical movement. The boundaries of time, space, and sound harmonize during an all-night experience of music and visual art presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association to kick start Minimalist Jukebox, a two-week festival dedicated to this diverse genre under the guidance of American composer John Adams.

This event, which runs from 11:59pm Saturday, March 18 to 6:00am Sunday, March 19, features sets by special guest artists Boom Bip, Dntel, and John Tejada as LA's own dublab soundsystem provides the soundtrack between acts. The evening culminates with The Orb’s live performance.

Who:            The Orb are Dr. Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann. Since their seminal Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld in 1991 to last year’s Okie Dokie It’s The Orb on Kompakt, the Orb have continued to create electronic music from spacious and minimal celestial-techno to spiraling and hypnotic dance floor anthems. Special Guests: Boom Bip, Dntel, John Tejada and dublab soundsystems. Live Visual Art by Vello Virkhaus.
