Jazz
Pianist Henry Butler @ UCLA's Fowler Museum
Sergio Martinez, Socal.com Editor

OK my man, today’s Monday. Let’s do the math: that makes tomorrow Tuesday. But you know, tomorrow won’t be just any Tuesday –like most Tuesdays that follow most Mondays. This is Tuesday February the 28th, yes, the year 2006 of god knows whose lord.

Now, let’s get back to the importance of this particular Tuesday. Nope, it has nothing to do with a short February. In fact it isn’t even mysterious. OK, be impatient, here you have it in two words: Henry Butler (parenthesis doesn’t count: Henry Butler the acclaimed New Orleans jazz/blues pianist).

The highly respected pianist will grace the stage of the Lenart Auditorium at the Fowler Museum, “for a sonic journey through his examination of New Orleans' multi-musical personalities. Through lecture and demonstration, Butler explores the ebb 'n' flow of New Orleans music, its impact upon other musical styles, and the future of the city's musical culture in the wake of the storm”.

If people you invite say this is too short notice, tell them that this is put together by the UCLA Department of Ethnomusicology in conjunction with the Fowler Museum of Cultural History. Duh. You want to be in the know? Be prepared to have to run to the hottest thing in town without the least advanced notice.

(By the way, this is how people who don’t get it are easily kept at bay).

I should’ve started with the title of Butler’s concert since it was spicy enough, but here you have me in paragraph six, still ranting on totally unrelated stuff… Or am I…? ‘cause if you’re getting it, you know I’m just slow timing it before let it land in the palm of your hands:
