Uriel Saenz... A New Meaning To The US

Maybe anthropologists will give it to us in plain English one of these days. Until then, let me break it down for you: clothing is nothing but weaponry. At least, according to media guru Marshall McLuhan.

By logic deduction then, today’s fashion designers are nothing but armor architechts. Yes, the world’s a jungle and perceptions are the law of the land, in which case, having a top notch fashion artist on your side can make the difference between going to ‘war’ naked or fully prepared for the savage tours of duty we all have to endure while we ‘socialize’.

Should you not have yours yet, despair not. Locally, having grown to compete with New York and Milan for top notch fashion talent, Los Angeles has got its own slew of world class couture priests. One worth noticing in his rapid ascent is none other than local Uriel Saenz… and I say local just to make us proud. Uriel just got his international debut a few weeks ago at the prestigious 10th Annual China International Fashion Fair held in Humen, China.

The grapevine has it that the American designer became the rage at this international fashion forum covered by top design publications like Vogue China, China Textile News, CCTV, BJTV, Fashion Times and China Fashion Weekly, among many other international publications.

A regular at the LA Fashion Week Independent runway series, Saenz has crafted his style over the years and nowadays his creations are sold at highly exclusive couture boutiques and shops around the nation. In LA, his pieces are distributed with top fashion houses such as

EM&Co and others. Prices for his outfits range from $300 to $4600 dollars. The price of signature couture work is available by request only.

Reasons abound for this young designer’s rise. Asked about the motive for having Saenz exhibit at the Annual China International Fashion Fair, organizer Ivy Shen said: "This is an excellent opportunity for international exposure to American designers and Uriel Saenz shows the future of American fashion".

The China Fashion Fair organizers selected Uriel Saenz as a prime example of the style and quality the event wishes to convey. “The international appeal and stateside sensibility of Mr. Saenz’s luxuriously intricate work make him an ideal American style ambassador”.

Having attended his first international show, Saenz was not only exposed to the critical industry media in that part of the world but also got a chance to work with some of China’s top

fashion stylists and models.

If one was to highlight a moment of Saenz China experience is the instant when, at the opening of his runway show, to public acclaim, the American designer walked into a runway filled with ‘frozen models’ and with the touch of a finger, he ‘activated’ the entire show.

Here in the States, Uriel is in the process of considering the opening of a flagship store in LA in order to better tend to his local clientele. If you’re interested in the creations from this promising and upcoming tastemaker, make sure to visit his store online at: www.urielsaenz.com
