Socal Woman - Career Corner
Hollywood Hotties
Nafeesa DeFlorias, Socal.com Writer

Hot and Sweet!  No, not kung-pow-chicken; but those fabulously fabulous Pussycat Dolls! These girls are so super sweet, it reminds you of what you thought a sorority would be like before you got to college. At the behest of my editor, I went over to mall to meet the dolls, Stilla make-up and Sephora. Three very big and very new experiences that are apparently required of me, in order to say, “I live in LA.”

Sephora has always intimidated me. I go days without make-up, my hair in a bun and in my boyfriend’s blue t-shirt that reads, “My Blue T-Shirt.” So, a store that is often referred to as “the beauty authority” always seemed to be a place I didn’t belong. So, I dug around in my closet to get my I’m-going-to-be-looked-at-today-by-people-I-don’t-know-and-therefore-care-deeply-about-their-opinion-of-me outfit.

It turns out that Sephora is EXACTLY the place for someone like me. The Sephora crew offers assistance, not insistence and can easily guide you throughout the rows and rows of cosmetics, colognes, skin care and hair care products -and get this, they actually know what they’re talking about. So, I know call Sephora, Euphoria.

Stilla cosmetics are my new best friends. In my life, I’ve had a lot of stuff slathered on my face; makeup, and things my baby sister thought were funny; so I notice when it actually looks good, and Stilla does. The best thing I noticed about Stilla, was that it looked good on everyone. The free make-over moment attracted African American faces, Asian faces and Caucasian faces alike, and the make-up seemed to work on all of us. Now, I’ve stayed away from Stilla, because I thought it was the starter set for little twelve year olds.  Stilla is actually for the best life has to offer: 20 to 40-year-old women, and it’s all about natural glamour. So far, worth the drive (and the money I dropped at the counter).

The moment arrives when the Pussycat Dolls come in to announce their partnership with Stilla. Shorter than I thought they’d be, they are unbelievably gorgeous. They’re dancers and woah, does it show. These girl’s bodies are what makes gym memberships soar every January. Their careers (they’re preparing to release an album) keep them busy, so they’re hard to catch, but there’s hope. Robin, the Pussycat founder has started a Vegas Pussycat Doll troupe that can be seen year-round. Like the original Dolls, all of these ladies were hand picked by Robin for their looks, talent and sweet disposition.

Sure, they seem nice, but could I ever really be friends with these Hollywood hotties? The only way to find out, was to break out the ‘Nafees-O-Meter’. Three random questions I use to get to know people in seconds. If we match 0 of 3 answers -I would hate them openly in public and walk away while they’re still speaking, 1 of 3 answers –I’m nice to their faces, but bash them when they’re not around, 2 of 3 answers –I’m friends with them, but secretly envious, which will come out in subtle ways that I can’t explain, and 3 of 3 answers –we’re “BFF” (check your high school yearbook if you don’t remember that BFF means ‘best friends forever’.)

Here we go…

Q: Ever dine and dash?

A: (pause) I don’t think so

Q: Boxers or Briefs?

A: Boxer Briefs!

Q: Ever had sex in your parents' house?

A: Yes, I have.

Without giving away which ones, we match 2 of the 3 answers. True to form, I would LOVE to be friends with this bevy of beauties and I am (not so) secretly envious of them. So I get my autographed DVD and go to the food court to get a Cinnabon...
