The Make Up Show LA, a two day event held in mid-March, was a grand festival that included all the colors, characters and fanfare associated with a serious business that, at the same time, is lots of fun
to be around.
Large and small companies that create makeup for professional makeup artists and the professional artists who apply the products to faces and bodies were there in large numbers to show off their wares and talents and to sample, compare and purchase the finest, state-of-the-art goos and geegaws the cosmetic industry has to offer.
In the 21st century, the profession of Make Up Art has moved far beyond the days when all you needed to know was what colors were hot for the season. Today's artist's must deal with savvy clients, know the trends, know the products, and have the skills to create beautiful illusions from flawless complexions to painted tattoos to full body art.
HD has changed the playing field for professional makeup artists who work with on-screen talent. The sharpness of HD is sometimes six times that of the human eye. Working knowledge of the new chemistry, new products and new methods is critical to staying competitive. The techniques and tools of airbrushing are another relatively new skill set that fits in an artist's bag of tricks.
