SAN DIEGO BAY WINE AND FOOD FESTIVAL
by David Wallen & Bibi Baker for SoCal.com

The festival was held at Embarcadero Park on the water of San Diego Bay in the downtown area of San Diego on a hot day.

Many very good chefs were there with some excellent food offerings.

The Opera Cafe had a booth.  I had the opportunity to meet the chef and owner and sample

Delicious Deserts from Opera

some of their desserts.

They were absolutely delicious; among the best I ever had.

The Opera Cafe can be reached at 858 458 9050.  Their website is operadesserts.com

On the night prior to the grand tasting at the Embarcadero, was an event on board the Hornblower Yacht Inspiration on Mission Street in downtown.

Additionally there were 8 other events in the San Diego Wine and Food Festival.  The final event is the grand tasting.

The Chef of the Fest is a competition of chefs where chefs can win $2000 in cash as well as cooking supplies, knives, vacations, and publicity.

It was a large wine tasting with some edibles as well.  Flemings Prime Steakhouse has their delicious steak sandwiches to taste.

I had some of the finest Mexican cuisine at some of the booths.  Fine Tijuana restaurants and chefs were represented.

Cien Anos in Tijuana had three great items to try: chile rellenos, a  super taco and some juicy steak.

This is an elegant and gracious Zona Río restaurant offering artfully blended traditional Mexican flavors (tamarind, poblano chile, mango) in modern presentations.

Opera Owner and Chef

Try chiles rellenos stuffed with shrimp in lobster sauce, delicate calabaza (squash-blossom) soup, or chipotle oysters. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Their website is www.cien.info.

Wolfgang Puck's restaurant in San Diego is called Jai and is located at the La Jolla Playhouse.  Some delicious tasting items were available as well the opportunity

to talk to their chef.

Bondi Austrailian Beer and Food in downtown featured a tasty seafood ceviche.  Tastes, the restaurant located in Encinitas, featured a blueberry and shiraz

wine chutney on a slice of delicious lamb.

The Palm Restaurant had a slice of beef with red and yellow bell peppers sauteed on a crostini bread.

The Indigo Grill had corn tomales.

Sally's seafood had grilled scallops.

The Dry Soda is an excellent palate cleanser between different tastes.

In addition to the wines some very good beers were available to try including Hoegarten, Sapporo and Trumer Pils.
